LINE TO LOVE: NUEVO LIVING

Canadian furniture & lighting line Nuevo Living has actually been a major player in the furnishings industry for the past 25 years. Over the years, the brand has earned a positive reputation for delivering pieces of exceptional quality and design at an extremely affordable price-point.

By incorporating a mix of enduring materials, from stained hardwood and cast iron to wool textiles and polished glass, the brand delivers a balanced aesthetic with plenty of visual interest.

The line was introduced to me a through a designer trade resource program. Though I recognized some of the pieces from larger retail outlets; this was the first time I became familiar with the brand itself.

Though heavily infuenced by classic mid-century modern motifs, the look remains fresh through contemporary updates re-imagined for today's living.

I don't typically gravitate towards mid-century design but I was drawn to this line because it is extremely curated in color, texture and style while remaining accessible in price.

Each collection has a slight nod to mid-century but offers a variety of stylish pieces to suit any design aesthetic- especially given the color palette which leans heavily on muted, natural hues with touches of brass and gold throughout to add a dash of glamour.

I always believel that good intentional design is all about the push and pull.

The juxtaposition of elements from different design periods; the play on different shapes and materials. The mix of high and low. The pairing of clean with ornate, modern with classic and the old with the new.

The most recent collection is what really caught my eye as lately I have been loving rich textures in neutral whites & creams, interesting shapes and clean black accents.

This collection does just that featuring pared-back silhouettes with a streamlined aesthetic that’s light and airy. 'Focusing on neutral tones, organic shapes, and natural textures, we’ve created a collection that demonstrates the power of restrained style.'

Two standouts I think will work beautifully in any space are the Portia Dining Chair and the Marni Bench. With a chic curved backrest and sophisticated shape, the Portia dining chair's soft lines and luxurious fabric gives off a glam 70's vibe, while the geometric shapes and sleek legs of the Marni Bench offer up a clean contemporary piece perfect for small space living.

Perhaps my favorite piece from the entire Nuevo line is the black Fabiola Pendant. Designed to resemble an eye-catching piece of jewelry, the matte black tassels enclose the lightbulb creating a dramatic and diffused lighting effect.

So perfect for a chic powder room, butler's pantry or bar area.
