It only seemed appropriate to follow Pantone's lead and embrace their 2022 selection for Color of the Year: Very Peri.
Very Peri, a periwinkle blue shade with a violet undertone is the first time Pantone actually created a color instead of selecting from the archives for the "Color of Year".
According to the company, 'Very Peri was created as a reaction to the strange and uncertain years that are behind us. It displays a carefree, confident and daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit. Our lives are changing and Pantone Very Peri helps us to embrace this new landscape of possibilities.'
Well, truer words have never been spoken so hence I suppose, the bold and bright choice. Very Peri definitely feels positive, hopeful and fresh though it is a bit tricky to incorporate into the everyday.
Anything in the bright blue or purple family is always a challenge for me to work with. I just don't naturally gravitate towards those tones but I can appreciate the creative process!
When thinking about how I would make Very Peri work in a practical sense, I think the key is to let it be the star of the show and offset it with simple black, silver and brass or alongside a range of the blue to lavender spectrum. Check out January's moodboard for more inspiration.
Though not necessarily in my style wheelhouse, I think we will see a lot of fun things to come with this color. Since Pantone specifically created this color, I think they are definitely trend forecasting and textile and furniture makers will certainly take note.

It will certainly be interesting to see what's in store.
